PENDLE Council has reassured residents in Brierfield they will listen to their views on how Government regeneration cash will be spent.

The council is consulting with people in the Brierfield canal corridor and the North Valley in Colne.

Both will be the first places to benefit from the £12million funding given to the borough under the Government housing market renewal programme, Elevate.

Earlier this year, proposals drawn up by consultants included the demolition of 128 homes in the Clitheroe Road and Holden Road areas - and caused outrage among residents.

They branded the plans a "dog's dinner" and complained that the consultants had not talked with local people before drawing them up.

Coun Alan Davies, leader of the council, said no decisions would be made until residents had been given the chance to have a say.

He said: "The outcomes of the consultations in Brierfield and Colne will be analysed and reports will go before the area committees for their comments, and then will come back to the Executive.

"I would like to reassure residents that their views will be taken into consideration."
