MY dad, Henry Rigby, served in the Lancashire Fusiliers from the age of 16 years. When the battalion reached China his age was discovered but too late to send him home.
He served in El Alamein, Tobruk, Algiers, Germany, Belgium, Holland and was a POW in the Far East. He passed the time sewing the British flag with scraps he found. Also, he was one of the last to leave Dunkirk.
I have his medals, he was a proud and good soldier, believing in freedom and honour.
What a disgrace it would be to dishonour the name of Lancashire and the men who fought so bravely by losing Lancashire's name.
L RIGBY (Mr), Spindleberry Court, Woodnook, Accrington.
