do worse

than Kenny

THE best move Jack Walker ever made was bringing Kenny Dalglish in as manager -- and there's no reason why Blackburn Rovers couldn't do that again.

It's a great chance to bring him in with maybe someone younger who could learn under him, but Kenny is just what Blackburn need.

He is tried and tested at the highest level, he has experience and all the players respect him for what he's done in the game. He would win the dressing room over instantly.

However, I can't see it happening. I don't think he has that wonderful aura about him that he had when he first joined Blackburn.

It hasn't worked out for him at other clubs since he left but it would be nice to give the job to someone who gets immediate respect from the players, even though Kenny doesn't have it to the degree he once did.

But I still think Blackburn can do a lot worse than go for yet another Scot who has won the title in this country -- George Graham.

He would be a wonderful choice because he wants to get back in the game and has a proven track record.

Like Graeme Souness, he is a disciplinarian who has achieved things and done very well in the past.

Someone with that strength of reputation would be more effective in getting results and instilling confidence in the players because after the start Rovers have made, that's what they need more than anything.

Having said that, Mark Hughes would have to be my number one choice because of how popular he is with the fans here and the respect he has from the players.

It's not perfect because he would have to adjust from international to club management, but after seeing what he's done with Wales he can certainly get the best out of players.

It's like when Howard Kendall took over at Blackburn when I was a player there and the squad was under-performing when he arrived. But he was ruthless and a good motivator and got the best out of people.

Gordon Strachan is another name (and Scot!) being linked with the job and that would also be a good choice.

However, he wanted a break from the game and he doesn't really seem to have had that. After giving up a lovely job on the south coast I can't see why he would want to return to football at Blackburn.

I also think Terry Venables is in with a shot, mainly because of the same reasons as Graham, his bags and bags of experience.

But with Rovers in the position they are in, it would be difficult to see any other Premiership manager leaving to join them so someone out of the game at the moment has to be the safest bet.
