A WINDOW cleaner who got behind the wheel while banned and over the limit is awaiting sentence.

Burnley magistrates heard how ex-convict Scott Dumigan, 23, now said to be a changed man, had been persuaded to give a friend a lift home from a barbecue.

The defendant, who is subject to prison licence, was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court for sentence on a date to be fixed.

Dumigan, of Roughlee Grove, Burnley, admitted driving while disqualified, driving with excess alcohol and no insurance, on August 5.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court the defendant was banned until July 2005.

He was seen driving on Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, and police recognised him as a disqualified driver.

Dumigan smelled of drink, co-operated with police and was taken to the police station, where he gave two tests. The lower revealed 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Dumigan's licence expired next April. The defendant had been to a barbecue at his boss's home and was prevailed upon to drive the friend home.

He borrowed his employer's car with permission but was now living at an address without the temptation of a car.

Dumigan was currently taking part in the Think First programme. He had put his lifestyle of alcohol and amphetamine abuse behind him which was a huge achievement for him.
