A CHEEKY Cricket fan decided to kick off his team's victory celebrations by stripping off.

Streaker Shaun Riding got his kit off as he watched Colne Cricket Club win the Floodlit Express Cup against rivals Nelson.

But the 35-year-old managed to escape punishment after he pinched a quick single.

In the closing overs of the game and knowing his team were on course for victory against arch rivals Nelson, Shaun, head chef at The Alma Inn, in Emmott Lane, said decided to serve up his own knockout delivery.

Egged on by friends, Shaun - who thought of streaking two days before - stripped off only leaving his socks on for his jaunt across the wicket.

He said: "Well I knew we had won so I just thought I would do it.

"The young lads who were there play for Colne and they were egging me on all the way.

"The wicketkeeper was behind the stumps and heard all the cheering then saw me streaking across in my white socks."

Fellow locals at the ground between Keighley Road and Byron Road, gave Shaun, who lives in Oak Street, a rapturous ovation as he continued his way to the boundary where friends were waiting with his clothes.

And judging from the response he got Shaun said he my streak again, next time adding more to his routine and for charity.

He added: "I did not jump the stumps but I might do it next time.

"I did it for free but you never know, with the response I got I might do it for charity next time."

Chairman of Colne Cricket Club Trevor Lonsdale said: "It was just a bit of fun and as far as I know he did it for a bet."

Milton Lord, chairman of Nelson Cricket Club said it would have been better if the streak had not taken place but said everyone seemed to take it in good spirits.

He added: "It did not affect our players performance - it was just the wrong sex."
