A WOMAN was attacked by a cow in Rivington. Mrs G M Dixon saw that the unruly animal had strayed onto the road from a field at Wilcock's Farm, Sheephouse Lane. She tried to send it back to the field but it turned on her and left her badly bruised.
Mrs Dixon needed overnight hospital treatment at Chorley District Hospital, but the next day said she was "quite comfortable".

ARCHITECTS who submitted plans for a new church in Burnley, then put it on the wrong site, came in for scathing criticism. Members of the town's planning and environment committee were told that the church had been moved 30ft from the original spot. The committee decided as time was of the essence, the plan could go ahead unless local residents objected.

BUNGLING council debt collectors sent the bailiffs round to a man who had paid his poll tax.
Albert Laughlan was so shocked he had to take medication for his heart condition to calm down.
The 52-year-old, of Malvern Close, Accrington, was later found to have actually not only paid in full, but had paid £20 too much to the council. Red-faced officials apologised.
