IAN Moore has told Clarets playmaker Robbie Blake: 'I'll be there for you'.

The Burnley's goal-grabbers have already notched five of the Clarets seven goals this season.

And Moore, whose second headed strike of the campaign came in the 2-1 home defeat to Gillingham last time out, feels confident both men can boost their tallies against Crewe this weekend.

He said: "I've felt a little bit sorry for Robbie at times. As a lone striker he's had to hold onto the ball a lot longer than he should have because I haven't always been there for him.

"I've been out on the wing and I've quite enjoyed it, but it's still something I'm learning and I feel we are getting there with the new system."

Moore insists he has never been in better shape for an assault to better his best ever seasonal tally of 14 goals.

He said: "I am getting used to the new role and I feel fitter than ever. I weigh 12 stones right now and I have never been that light in my career.

"If you look back in the statistic books, I am registered at 12 stones 3 pounds - and that was when I was 19!

"The training the gaffer has brought in has really sharpened me up and that's resulted in me being the best weight I've ever been in my career."

Burnley are now looking to tip the scales back in their favour in Saturday's home clash with Crewe.

Two successive defeats have given Steve Cotterill's squad plenty of fat to chew over in the enforced break caused by this week's international double-headers.

"We were disappointed not to get anything from the last two games and we need to get back to picking up results as we were in the first few games of the season," admitted Moore.

"We haven't played a lot of games together and we are still getting used to some of the new lads who have come in.

"But we've played a lot of games in a short time since the start of the season and we're as fit as we can be, so we're looking forward to pushing on.

"We've had a nice break and I think we are all a little bit disappointed there wasn't a game last weekend to try and put things right after the two defeats.

"We have been able to relax a little more than usual, but hopefully come the Crewe game we'll be bang at it and ready from the start."

Burnley reserves were back in action this afternoon at Chester City in a Pontins Holiday League fixture at the Deva Stadium (2pm).
