THERE was disappointment all round at the Racecourse on Saturday last week as Radcliffe slumped to a another defeat in Pasan Wanasinghe's final game for the club.

Radcliffe were outplayed in both disciplines of the game and were made to pay by a Werneth team that started the game only one place ahead of the home side in the Central Lancashire League.

The one bright note was that popular professional Pasan signed off with an unbeaten half-century.

Skipper Graeme Simpson said: "We didn't deserve to win, simple as that.

"But, it was pleasing to see Pasan get a fifty. He has played like that all season and he's a pleasure to have on my side. I'm very sad that he has to go but finances dictate these things."

Radcliffe were sent into the field first and Werneth blasted their way to a decent total on a very wet pitch.

Alan Durose led the way with a classy 44 at the top of the order and he received valuable support from Paul Gill (54*) as the visitors made 178-5 in their 40 allotted overs.

Toby McLean bowled well to come away with figures of 3-57 and Wanasinghe bowled better than his figures of 1-91 suggest.

In reply, only Wanasinghe made any inroads into the target with his unbeaten 55 and his best support came from openers Bruce Cruse (16) and Phil Hayes (18) before a late cameo from Gaz Nicholson (23).

Stuart Moore was the pick of the bowling with five wickets as Radcliffe limped to 141-8 in a disappointing batting display.

Simpson added: "We bowled badly at the end of the Werneth innings and we didn't bat well enough to even get near the target."

The Racecourse men have a free weekend this week but cricket lovers still have the chance to see some action as the ground plays host to The Thwaites LCB Knockout Shield final between Bertex and Degham Hibbert.

Everyone is welcome and the bar and tea rooms will be open throughout what promises to be a great day.

Wickets are pitched at 11am on Sunday.
