FORMER Blackburn Rovers striker Dwight Yorke appeared at Chorley Magistrates Court charged with dangerous driving and speeding.

Yorke travelled at speeds up to 109mph along the M61 southbound carriageway and 'intimidated' other drivers, the court heard.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on May 5, as Yorke drove to Manchester Airport to catch a plane to Trinidad.

He was tracked by police in an unmarked car for more than 12 miles as he drove through Chorley in his gold Lincoln Aviator 4x4 vehicle.

Prosecutor David Hargraves said Yorke moved from lane to lane, indicating to other drivers to move over, and 'wobbling' between lanes.

Yorke, of Beechfield Road, Alderley Edge, was eventually pulled over by police just south of Bolton West Services.

The charge carries the threat of up to six months in prison and a driving ban.

Magistrates adjourned the case until November 9 for a pre-trial review.
