INTERNATIONAL Rugby League stars Brian Carney of Wigan, and Tommy Martyn of Leigh are putting years of rivalry behind them to support the Wigan & Leigh Hospice '20k for 20k' walk around picturesque parts of the Borough on Sunday.

Winger Carney said "The intense rivalry between Wigan and St Helens is legendary, and with Tommy now a big influence in the continuing Leigh charge towards Super League, the competition looks set to continue."

Martyn added "Brian and I are more than happy to 'temporarily' call a truce, to support such a great day and worthy cause."

The second anniversary Wigan & Leigh Hospice '20k for 20k' walk on Sunday is your chance to raise funds for the ongoing campaign.

The 20 kilometre fundraising walk will take in some of the Borough's most beautiful countryside and you can join in for as much or as little as you like. Last year hundreds of happy walkers raised a fantastic £20,000 for the Hospice. What better way to show your support and have a great time as well? Why not help to get an even better score this year?

Whatever your capabilities, there is something for you, from half hour guided health walks at Pennington Flash Country Park (also suitable for disabled) and Three Sisters Country Park, to the full 20k, or anything in between.

Why walk alone? Get together with friends, family or colleagues, maybe have a picnic, that way you can help raise even more. Or if you prefer, simply make new friends as you go. There are refreshments available en route and you can go at your own pace, in your own time and even sow wild flowers at pre-prepared sites if you wish, perhaps as a tribute to someone you know. The event starts from 9.30am.

There is no entry fee, but it is hoped you will raise some sponsorship, or make a donation.

Companies and organisations (e.g. sporting, leisure, religious etc) are also encouraged to join in.
