Local bragging rights belong to Leigh after this comprehensive victory against Tyldesley in this fiercely contested league fixture.

The tone was set in the opening minute for Leigh as flanker Travers dumped the massive Tyldesley prop forward. From this Leigh gathered possession and fed the ball to their speedy backs which led to full-back Sale touching down in the corner for what was a perfect start.

Leigh continued to pile on the pressure with the forwards dominating the rucks and mauls and knocking the stuffing out of Tyldesley with their aggression in defence. Leigh extended their lead when centre Fletcher outfoxed his opposite number and rounded the full-back to score a tremendous try.

Almost immediately, after good work from Liku and Morgan, Leigh crossed the line again when prop Newton barged over in the corner. Unusually for Faid all three conversions were missed.

With a little bit of possession Tyldesley were able to pressurise Leigh and were rewarded after a rare Leigh mistake, with a penalty for offside. MacKintosh reduced the deficit with a well taken penalty.

This only spurred Leigh on and Fletcher took advantage of weak defence to score again out wide. Faid converted to make the score 22-3 in Leigh's favour. Two more penalties for Tyldesley and one for Leigh made the half-time score 25-9.

The second half was a scrappy affair. As fatigue set in both teams made a number of handling errors. Leigh continued to control the game and were never under any pressure themselves. Again Egerton went close before Losty sealed the game for Leigh with a well taken try from a line-out. Faid converted to make the game safe.
