TYLDESLEY RU turned their first road trip of the season into a worthwhile event by edging out home side Trafford MV 22-17 in the North Lancashire & Cumbria Division.

The foundations laid by a solid display from the pack in the first half was used effectively as both overseas imports, Rhys Morgan and Jack Nash made good debuts.

The first Tyldesley try came from full-back Andy Dickinson who joined the line well to score a try converted by Mark Dickinson. A few minutes later winger Gary Corbett showed good pace to finish in the corner and although Dickinson missed the conversion he was on hand to land a penalty to take Tyldesley in 15-12 ahead at the break.

The second half was a more tight affair with neither side in complete control. Eventually Nash broke forward in the loose making 35 metres before offloading to the supporting Dickinson who in turn provided the final pass to Tom Cartwright who touched down under the posts. Trafford fought back with an unconverted try but Tyldesley held firm.

The home side tried to claw back some points but they had to settle for three penalty goals from Fraser Mackintosh as the half ended 25-9 in Leigh's favour.

The second period saw Tyldesley control the tight but the pace of the Leigh side was always a threat and the game was over as a contest when Leigh scored another converted try.
