CONFUSION over the name of a dog led to the adjournment of a court case involving a Radcliffe man accused of being in charge of two dogs dangerously out of control.

Brian Challender (59), of Richmond Walk, admitted being in charge of one German Shepherd dog dangerously out of control in a public place which resulted in Sudhirkumar Chevli being injured, and he also admitted to being in charge of an Alsation which injured the same person.

However, when the names of the dogs, Beauty and Sheba, were read out before Bury magistrates on Tuesday, the defendant took issue.

"The dog was not called Sheba. It was called Shannon," he stated.

The prosecution declined to amend the charge until further inquiries were completed. The court heard that the defendant had possessed two dogs which bit somebody else and a destruction order was made in 2002. However, on appeal, the dogs were allowed to live, subject to being muzzled.

He was given unconditional bail and told to re-appear before the court on October 6.
