I HAVE to thank Centurions' fans for answering Neil Blower's rallying call to the series of Leigh v Whitehaven games.

It caught the attention of many readers and I don't know how much credit we can claim, but compared to the Hull KR match a week earlier, the gate nearly doubled to 3400+ on Sunday, September 5 to witness the exciting victory over Whitehaven. The gate for the Hull KR game the previous week was 1800.

Neil says without doubt, Whitehaven fans played their part too but roughly 1000 extra Leigh fans turned out to back the Centurions as they returned to the top of the table in National League One.

This was the biggest crowd of the year at Hilton Park -- bigger than the Challenge Cup match against Super League opposition, Hull FC, back in February.

It is now time to look forward to the next mouth-watering clash with Whitehaven at Hilton Park at 3pm on Sunday, September 26. Let's hope both sets of fans turn out again.

It is not unreasonable with the support of Journal readers to expect a crowd above the 4000 mark. This would clearly show the world that the wider public in and around Leigh do care about backing the Leigh Centurions' club as Super League beckons.
