A FORMER Leigh soccer team is ready to get their kits on again - to raise money for charity.

Ten seasons ago the Westleigh Village Club ran two successful teams in the Leigh Soccer League and now the search is on to get those two sides back on the pitch to raise cash for Christie's Hospital.

They will replicate the Carl Brown Trophy quarter-final of 1995/96 when the Village Club's first team were drawn against the second team. The first team won the "Battle of the Village" 2-1 with goals from Matty Smith while Jay Lee netted for the seconds.

The re-match will take place on the soccer pitch alongside the Silver Dollar, Nel Pan Lane, Leigh on May 29 and will be just part of a day-long fund-raiser.

Terry Griffin, one of the organisers, said: "Most of the lads have been contacted are they all seem really keen. We hope to have the same lads playing in 2005 that played in the original. The snowball that started very small is gaining momentum and growing by the day so its looking good that we will be making some good bucks for a worthy cause."
