There was a big turnout for the Radcliffe Swimming Club Annual Shrimps Gala before a large and enthusiastic audience of parents and friends at Radcliffe Pool.

The Shrimps Gala is for the club's junior members, with races over one length of the pool in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke, in age groups from under 7 up to under 11 years.

There was a high standard of performance from the 85 swimmers who took part.

The most successful swimmers were Luke Van Bentum (9yrs), Aidan Smith (10yrs), Abigail Coop (11yrs) and Sam Horrocks (11yrs), who each won all four of their races in their respective age groups.

The youngest competitors were five year old Hannah Leak, who won medals in both the 25 metre freestyle and the 25 meter backstroke, and five-year-old Nathan Bennett who won a medal in the 25 metre backstroke.

At the end of the competition club president Mr Peter Sillett presented awards to all the finalists. Abigail Coop and Sam Horrocks won the Bury Sports Forum trophies for the best overall performances in the 11-year-old age groups.
