Parents in East Lancs can banish the school holiday blues with the help of a new 'School Holiday Walks' section on a Lancashire walks website.
Lancashirewalks.com, that promotes the exploration of Lancashire’s countryside was set up by retired teachers Bob Clare and John Griffiths, who recognise that when school holidays arrive parents can be stretched to find suitable activities for their children.
However many overlook the benefits of countryside walks as an activity. Walking is healthy, easy to organise and cheap.
The website also lists the potential hazards for each walk, such as traffic and water, so parents can be fully clued up before setting off.
One of the walks is Over Longridge Fell to Hurst Green. Bob says: "The woods are lovely - dark and deep, and the thick plantations of conifers add spice to the walk. Deer have been spotted in this area.
"There is a fine view from Spire Hill towards the Bowland Fells and there is a lot for children to see during the walk."
The 12 walks are divided into two categories by age group – primary and secondary, giving one walk for each week of the holidays.
