A CONVOY of motor bikes roared into Morecambe as a biking twosome completed a fund-raising journey across the globe.
More than 50 local people joined Morecambe pair Kurtis Murphey and David Snelling as they rode from Devil’s Bridge to the Eric Morecambe statue.
The ride ended more than 100 days of biking across Europe, Asia, the USA and Canada in a bid to raise more than £10,000 for Barnardos.
The lads were ‘overwhelmed’ at the support they received – and despite having the time of their lives they were glad to be back home.
Kurtis told the Citizen: “We have been to some great places but one thing the trip has made me realise is that Morecambe is a fabulous place to live. After the trip it looks much nicer than I remember it.”
The duo’s favourite place on the trans-world journey was Mongolia – where horses run wild along the roadside, the sky was a deep blue and at night they could count the shooting stars.
The worst experience – apart from being held at gunpoint and robbed – was in Siberia, where the roads were so bad they made less than 100 miles in 16 hours.
Kurtis, who graduated from Lancaster University with a criminology degree in the summer, says: “We met some dodgy people along the way but for every bad one there were 100 decent people.”
Money is still pouring in for Barnardos through donations on the bikers’ website, collection buckets and even gifts in the street.
“The support has been fabulous. We can’t thank people enough and as 100 per cent of the money is going straight to Barnardos. It will make a massive difference to other lives,” says Kurtis.
“Now maybe we will go on our bikes across another part of the world and do something even more crazy – but we are keeping that to ourselves for now.”
