THE family of a 75-year-old man tragically killed in a road traffic collision in Lancaster on Monday, July 14, 2008, have paid tribute to a "hard working and dedicated" family man.
Mr Sadhu Singh of Morecambe was born in the holy city of Amritsar in the state of the Punjab in India.
He came to the area in the late 1950s and became well known as a retailer with a fashion stall in Lancaster market for more than 30 years and shops in other family shops in Lancaster, Morecambe and Barrow.
A family statement read: "Dad was an amazingly hard worker who did everything he could to help his family.
"He was a very popular man who loved to keep busy. Everyone who knew him called him "Mr Singh". Despite being in his 70s he never slowed down and his death has been a shock to us all.
"He will be sadly missed."
The statement continued: "We would like to thank the people from all over the country who have sent us messages of support and we would also like to thank the emergency services who did all they could to help dad and the police for their support."
Mr Singh had five sons Kalwant, Bachter, Pramjit, Kannan and Shamsher.
He also leaves behind a wife, 12 grandchildren and six great grand children.
