MOTORISTS are being warned to plan ahead and avoid congestion close to this weekend’s Royal Lancashire Show.
The annual agricultural spectacular will be at Myerscough, near Garstang, for three days from this Friday, from July 18.
More than 60,000 people are expected to head for the show fields - and police warn that there will be congestion all around the area.
They are advising local motorists who are not planning to attend the event to find alternative routes or be prepared to be patient.
To make matters worse for long distance travellers, there are a number of other high profile in the region at the same time - such as the British Open golf at Royal Birkdale and the Tall Ships Race weekend in Liverpool, David Grunwell, regional performance manager for regional trunk roads, says: “This is going to be a busy weekend for large parts of the region and we are minimising roadworks to ensure we reduce any inconvenience to drivers.”
The designated route to the show from the north is via junction 33 of the M6 and the A6 with heavy traffic expected.
