People from across the borough are being invited to attend a memorial for workers, near Blackburn Library.

Members of the Blackburn and District Trades Union Council will gather at the Memorial Tree on Sudell Cross on Friday April 26.

The annual commemoration around the world remembers workers who lost their lives because of their job. The aim each year is to remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work-related injury or illness.

The Blackburn TUC said: “This Friday, (26 April), we will hold our annual Blackburn town centre commemoration of International Workers Memorial Day, to show our respects for those killed and injured at or by their work and to highlight the need for constant vigilance in Health and Safety.

“A short lunch-time assembly starting at 12.30pm. We shall be joined by Janet Newsham, Coordinator of Greater Manchester Hazards Centre.”
