Two lanes are closed and there are "long delays" on the M61 this morning due to emergency repairs.
The lanes are closed on the southbound carriageway, causing heavy congestion from the M65 at junction 9 down to junction 8.
Delays are currently at around 50 minutes.
The AA traffic news website says: "Long delays and two lanes closed due to emergency repairs on the M61 southbound after J8 A674 Millenium Way (Chorley)."
National Highways said the reason for the closure was due to barrier repairs and normal traffic conditions are not expected until between 10.15-10.30am.
The incident was first reported at around 7am this morning (January 4).
