The owners of a pub are holding two charity auctions in a bid to help the victims of the earthquake in Morocco.

The Swan with Two Necks in Pendleton is set to host a charity auction today (September 22) from 8pm and tomorrow (September 23).

The Swan with Two Necks owners Steve and Christine Dilworth, who are frequent visitors to Morocco and have developed close friendships with locals there, are on a mission to help after the earthquake this month affected the lives of their friends.

Survivors were left homeless and in urgent need of shelter, food and clothing after the 6.8 magnitude quake, stretching from the High Atlas Mountains to the historic city of Marrakech, destroyed buildings and lives.

The United Nations estimates almost 3,000 have been killed and 300,000 people affected by the earthquake, the most powerful to hit Morocco in 120 years, and made more dangerous by its relatively shallow depth.

The charity auction at the Pendleton pub promises an array of items up for bidding, generously donated by the community. Some of the items on offer include:

  • Beers from Ossett Brewery
  • A signed Burnley Football Shirt
  • Vouchers for the Swan with Two Necks
  • Various hampers filled with delightful surprises
  • A bottle signed by the Speaker of the House of Commons
  • A bottle of exquisite Champagne

Additionally, the pub's Good as New Shop will also be open from 5pm today, offering additional opportunities for patrons to contribute to this noble cause.

The Swan with Two Necks team is dedicated to ensuring that all funds raised will directly benefit those who have lost everything in the tragedy.

Steve and Christine plan to personally deliver the funds to Morocco when they travel there in November, ensuring that the assistance goes directly to those in need.
