THREE cars from two properties in a Burnley street were hit by petrol thieves.

The cars, in Brooklands Road, had quantities of fuel taken while parked overnight on Saturday and Sunday.

In one incident, a Ford Focus had its petrol cap forced and £40 of unleaded petrol was stolen.

Unleaded fuel worth £20 was also stolen from a Vauxhall Corsa after the cap was broken.

And thieves punctured the underside of a Vauxhall Astra to steal £70 of diesel.

Sergeant Phil Carter warned motorists to be even more careful with their vehicles as the price of fuel continues to bite.

He said: "People should be more aware and vigilant, especially during the hours of darkness.

"They should park their cars under street lights or in garages and they should report anything suspicious to police."
