POLICE who stopped a disqualified driver found 11 bags of cannabis hidden in his car.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Atif Afzal admitted buying the cannabis to share with his friends that night.

And his admission landed him before the court charged with possession with intent to supply.

Afzal, 25, of Woodfold Place, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply, simple possession of cannabis, driving while disqualified and without insurance and obstructing a police officer by giving false details.

He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £60 costs.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said that as well as the 11 bags of cannabis the police also found £400 cash.

When they searched his house they found a single bag as well as weighing scales and a cannabis crusher.

When interviewed Afzal said he had purchased the cannabis for £80 and intended to share it with his friends that night.

He said it was a regular thing with him and his friends and they would take it in turns to buy the cannabis.

"No money would change hands between them," he added.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said it was not a case of commercial supply of drugs.

"If he hadn't told the police about the arrangement he and his friends had he would probably only have been charged with straight possession," said Mr Ditta.

"He was very candid with the police."
