A NEWLYWED has been found hanged just five months after getting married.

Majid Ali, 21, only celebrated his marriage to Aksah in Gujrat, Pakistan, this summer before the couple returned to live at the family home in Every Street, Nelson.

The former Edge End High School pupil was found hanging under a motorway bridge on Lomeshaye Road by a passer-by on Wednesday at 1.40pm.

His family have spoken of their shock at his death saying that it had come out of the blue' Majid's father, Mohammad Nawaz, said his son was in good health and did not seem to have any worries.

Mr Nawaz, placing his head in his hands to the sounds of sobbing from the backroom, said: "He was a good lad who got on well with everyone.

"My wife is really struggling with this. They had the special mother-son bond.

"And his wife is devastated."

Mr Nawaz said he last saw his son in on Tuesday night. He said he could hear the 21-year-old moving around in his bedroom the following morning getting ready for work.

The family later got a phone call from his employers, Express Gifts, in Scotland Road, Nelson, stating he had failed to turn up at work.

He said: "We were worried about him then because that was out of character.

"He was fine there was nothing wrong with him and this came out of the blue.

"He had no health problems and nothing he was worried about.

"He went to bed as normal on Tuesday night and I heard him moving about the next day."

The death is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest had been opened into his death.

The family is hoping to fly the 21-year-old production worker's body to Kharian, where he was born and lived until 2001, today (Saturday November 24) after being released by the coroner.

His first cousin, Sajad Ahmed, of Rupert Street, Nelson, grew up with Majid. He said he would be missed by his four brothers and wife.

Mr Ahmed added: "She is very distressed with grief because it has been very difficult.

"He will be missed by everyone.

"There are so many things I could say about him but this is so difficult.

"He was a good lad and everyone who met him loved him.

"He was a hard worker."

A funeral was held for him at the family home in Every Street at 7pm last night (Friday November 23).
