Residents from Brooklands Road, Brooklands Avenue, Mayfield Fold and Woodgrove Road "conspired" to give Mark and Marie Travis a warm welcome to the area.

Two local residents noticed the new billboards outside the restaurant when walking their dogs and went over to investigate. After talking to Mark and wanting to help the young couple and their 2 year old daughter Amber, they called on friends and neighbours door to door to "spread the word".

"We hope The Cherry Tree is a great success - we need a good restaurant over this side of town. It's good to be able to celebrate a new venture rather than read all the negative pubilicity this area gets" they remarked.

Every seat was taken for the opening night and bookings are already being taken for Christmas Day and New Year as well as Christmas Party Nights.

The restaurant will also be open at lunchtimes and will cater for company Christmas lunches as well as walkers, golfers and anyone who enjoys good food!

The restaurant, situated at the junction of Todmorden Road and Rock Lane, across from the entrance to Towneley Golf Course and Towneley Park & Hall, has been refurbished and upgraded to comply with current Health and Safety standards.

Mark, formerly the Chef at The Ridge Restaurant, is embarking on The Cherry Tree venture alone, backed by many years' experience as a Chef and an excellent reputation for superb cuisine.

"The menus are interesting and varied and not "over the top" on prices" said one of the residents. Until Mark's licence to sell alcohol has been granted, any wine or other alcoholic beverage may be brought onto the premises by diners with only corkage being charged. Other soft drinks and mixers will be available for sale.
