A MAN has been arrested after a boy was the victim of an attempted mugging for his dinner money.

Police have quizzed a 21-year-old about the attack on six-year-old Hanza Ahmed, who was walking home from school when he was confronted in Burleigh Street, Burnley.

The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery following a front-page appeal by Burnley CID in the Lancashire Telegraph.

Hanza's mother, Shaheda Begum, said her son had been "petrified" by the incident, in which he said he was threatened by a man with spiky hair.

The would-be mugger demanded money from him, then kicked the boy in the leg and patted down his pockets.

Then the man ordered him to take his shoes and socks off.

Hanza repeatedly told the would-be mugger that he didn't have any money and the man eventually walked off empty-handed towards Arley Gardens.

The youngster had been walking home at lunchtime from Stoneyholme Primary, in Oswald Street, to his home in nearby Castle Street.

Police have confirmed a local man, has been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

DC Neil Marr said: "We are still seeking witnesses over this incident and our enquiries are continuing. We would urged anyone with information about this incident to still come forward."
