Children and young people who face serious medical problems including cancer have joined forces to raise hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.

Pupils from Hillview, Swindon Street, Burnley, Lancashire County Council's school for children who are too ill to attend school full time, came up with ideas to raise money for the Tickled Pink Campaign.

They decided on a sponsored walk round Scott Park, Burnley, and a coffee morning in the school hall.

They roped in friends, parents and staff for sponsorship and donations.

The walk was a truly team effort, with some students in wheelchairs being pushed by others who were able to walk, and cakes made by pupils were served in the coffee morning.

The events raised more than £600 with £100 being donated from Haslingden High School.

County Coun Sean Serridge said, "What an achievement by these young people who are already facing serious medical problems themselves.

"They make a great contribution to the community and I am proud of them".

The children hope to raise money for many other charities including Tickled Pink, which raises money for breast cancer charities.
