A TOWN has reached ‘saturation point’ of new homes with a further 110 in the pipeline, a councillor has said.

The latest outline plans have been submitted to Ribble Valley borough council by Congleton-based Gladman Developments Ltd for the houses on land off Henthorn Road, Clitheroe.

As well as this development, a 25-home development on land behind 115 Kemple View, which lies just off Henthorn Road in Clitheroe, has been approved.

While work on a scheme to build 36 houses in nearby Union Street, Low Moor, Clitheroe, has started.

In Whalley, Laurus Homes and Trafford Housing Trust also plan to develop 184 homes on Clitheroe Road in Whalley, over half of them for affordable rent and shared ownership.

Cllr Sue Hind, who represents the Edisford and Low Moor ward on the council, said she had ‘grave concerns’ about the latest plans.

She said: “I feel that we are almost at saturation point.

“The health centre in Clitheroe is struggling to cope with new people.

“There are also quite a few schools in the town that are full up.

“Henthorn Road is already busy with traffic and this development will increase that.

“It’s not just Clitheroe and Whalley but also in Longridge.”

“It’s just awful, no one wants all these homes.”

But Gladman Developments Ltd said in planning documents: “The development will create up to 110 houses with a range of housing to meet the needs of the area, whilst respecting and enhancing the site’s environmental assets.

“Housing will be set within a robust network of green infrastructure, which will help to integrate development within the landscape and create a distinctive sense of place.”

The developer is looking to build 78 market value homes on the site with another 32 dedicated to social housing.
