SIX people including a 15-year-old boy were arrested following a violent knife fight outside a nightclub which left a number of people with ‘horrendous injuries’.

The brawl, which happened at around 4.15am on Sunday, took place outside the Switch nightclub in St Peter Street, Blackburn, police said.

Club bosses declined to comment but said the brawl was not related to Switch.

Around 12 people were involved in the fighting which left one man, 18, with a wound to his ear and neck which resulted in him losing a ‘significant’ amount of blood.

A 16-year-old man also suffered multiple slash wounds to his arm and torso.

A ‘totally innocent’ woman who was outside the club when the fighting began also sustained injuries, suffering a deep cut to her face.

Det Insp Tim McDermott said: “During this fight two men suffered frankly horrendous injuries that I believe were caused with a bladed weapon of some sort.

“A totally innocent woman caught up in the middle of the fight has also been injured and we need the help of the public to establish exactly what took place and who was responsible for the injuries caused.

“The police will not tolerate behaviour of this sort and we have committed significant resources to the investigation.”

Police are also asking anybody who may have taken any mobile phone footage of any sort to come forward.

A 15-year-old boy, three 16-year-olds, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old, all from Blackburn, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

A police spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for information after a significant affray outside a Blackburn nightclub left several people seriously injured.

“The fighting involved around a dozen people and so far six people have been arrested and enquiries continue.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
