THE government's two per cent pay rise for police officers has been branded 'an insult' by the woman who represents Lancashire's rank and file cops.

County Police Federation chair Rachel Hanley said it represented just £2.50 a week for new constables.

Last week the government announced all police officers would get a two per cent pay rise from 1 September 1 with the cash coming from existing force budgets,

Ms Hanley said: “The pay award is quite frankly an insult.

"It shows a lack of respect and understanding for our hard working officers. The pay rise equates to £2.50 a week for new officers.

“The strength of feeling from officers is already plain to see, they feel like they have had another kick in the teeth. In the coming weeks we will determine what steps to take.”
