CLARETS chairman Mike Garlick's call for a second Euro-referendum has been welcome by a senior Liberal Democrat.

Cllr Gordon Lishman, Chair of Burnley Liberal Democrats and the party's 2015 General Election candidate in Blackburn, said the football boss's remarks last week backed demands for a 'People’s Vote' on the final Brexit deal.

Mr Garlick, chairman of Burnley FC, said: “The destructive Brexit path being pursued by the government threatens to have a hugely damaging effect on football.

“The Brexit that was promised in 2016 is clearly not the one that’s being delivered. That’s why I support a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal, and why I am urging others to join the campaign."

Cllr Lishman said: “Regardless of how they voted in the referendum, Burnley people do not want to see our Football Club threatened by a bad Brexit deal or, worse, no deal at all.

“It’s also becoming clear that jobs in Burnley will be at risk. I believe they should have the opportunity to vote on the final deal or whether there will be a deal at all”.
