OBJECTIONS have been raised over plans to build more than 35 homes on the outskirts of two towns.

Liberata Architects has submitted a proposal to Pendle Council to put up 36 residential homes on greenfield land near Nelson and Brierfield.

Bosses at Liberata, who have been working in partnership with Pendle Council since 2005, want 36 semi-detached three bedroom homes to be built on the unused land. If plans are approved, there will also be 72 parking spaces made available for cars.

The site, which is 1.85 hectares in size, is undeveloped and unused greenfield land and located between Halifax Road and King's Causeway, which is a mile stretch on the outskirts of Brierfield and Nelson.

Known previously as Marsden Height, the site is bounded on its north side by Halifax Road Allotments, on its east and south sides by existing housing and on its west side by open space.

No objections have been raised by the Environment Agency or Natural England while Lancashire County Council's highways committee and the parish council have yet to respond.

One councillor and some residents have raised concerns over the plans to build on greenfield land rather than a brownfield site.

Cllr Eileen Ansar, who represents the area, said: "It will be extremely difficult to deliver what the developer wants to do there.

"They need to look at other land rather than greenfield. We have three brownfield sites in Nelson that need to be developed first."

Two objection letters have been submitted with one resident, Allan Nizinkiewics, of Halifax Road, saying there is insufficient land to build a 'safe' access road to the properties.

Building control manager, Jerry Mannion, has responded to the concerns and said: “All relevant planning issues raised by members of the public and statutory consultees, including the Lead Local Flood Authority, will be taken into account when making a recommendation for a decision.

“It’s expected the decision will be made by Brierfield and Reedley Committee by October."
