THESE pictures show the horrifying moment five masked men laid siege to a silver car, smashing its windows with baseball bats and metal poles as a young child sat in the back seat.

In a video uploaded to social media, five men can be seen trashing a silver BMW on Queens Park Road in Blackburn, smashing the windscreen and sending its wing mirrors flying.

The driver inside the car can be seen trying to escape the attack by driving away from his attackers, but is blocked into the street by another car.

In a second video seen by the Lancashire Telegraph, a man thought to be the driver of the car can be seen with blood pouring from his head.

Police confirmed they were called to the scene shortly after 8pm on Saturday night (August 11), to reports that a number of men with weapons were attacking a car.

A 19-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of Affray and detectives are appealing for information on what they say was a ‘targeted attack.’

Salim Sidat, ward councillor for Audley and Queens Park, said that this kind of behaviour was ‘disgusting’ and that there was ‘no place for it in our society.’

He said: “I was appalled when I heard about this incident, it is disgusting.

“There was a child inside the car and young children in the street watching the attack take place.

“There really is no place for this kind of behaviour in our society and this kind of thing should not be going on.”

A petrified onlooker, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "This level of violence in the area is really scary.

"It makes me feel unsafe and I'm concerned about why it happened - what's going on here for this kind of behaviour to be needed?"

Detectives are now appealing for information on the incident and a spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The driver and his five year old son both received minor injuries during the incident which is being treated as a targeted attack."

Detective Sgt Rob Trickett said: “While we do believe that this was a targeted attack it was nonetheless terrifying for this man and especially for his young son who was with him in the car. I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.”

Extra patrols have been put on in the area as reassurance.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log number 1268 of August 11.
