A MAN was left with a broken nose and fractured cheek following a serious assault.
Police were called to reports of a serious assault involving two men in Briercliffe Park, on Queen Street, Briercliffe at around 8.15pm on July 7.
Officers said a 53-year-old man had been knocked unconscious after having a conversation with a 35-year-old man from Burnley. The victim suffered a suspected broken nose and fractured cheek, a police spokesman said.
A 35-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
A police spokesman said: "It appears a 35-year-old man approached a 53-year-old man in a wooded area.
"They had a conversation and the victim was knocked unconscious and suffered a suspected broken nose and fractured cheek."
Witnesses of the assault have been asked to come forward and assist the police with their enquiries by contacting 101 quoting crime reference number EF1810347.
