A PUB has temporarily closed its doors as brewers search for a new management team.

The Greyhound Inn in Altham has been shut for several weeks, leaving people in the town questioning its future.

Brewers Samuel Smith Old Brewery confirmed the pub in Whalley Road is not closing down and are searching for managers to run the site after the previous landlords left.

The pub also recently underwent a refurbishment just several months ago.

Cllr Tim O'Kane, chair of licensed premises on Hyndburn Council, said he hopes to see the pub back open as soon as possible.

He said: "I'm really keen that we sort something out so the pub can serve the community again.

"It's a listed building, it's important for the area that we keep hold of this pub.

"The pub has served the community very well, it's got a few different function rooms which are popular with several community groups.

"It's a great shame that it's shut but hopefully we'll sort something out."

The pub has been left without managers since the previous landlords left the site earlier this year.

Cllr Stephen Button, who represents the area on Hyndburn Council, said: "The pub is well used, it gets a good stream of regular customers, it's quite popular.

"It would be sad for the area if it had to close permanently."

Samuel Smith Old Brewery are now looking for joint managers to run the venue, which features a games room, two lounges and a large trade kitchen.

Adverts have been placed online in an attempt to recruit new management, and full training will be on offer to those who take it over.

A spokesman for Samuel Smith Old Brewery said: "We just need to find a good local couple to manage the venue.

"It's not been permanently closed, it's been recently refurbished, all our pubs are kept in great condition."
