A WARNING has been issued about fake £50 and £20 notes circulating.

Businesses across East Lancashire have fallen victim to people using counterfeit notes to purchase goods and items.

Chairman of Blackburn Businesses Against Crime, Ronnie O’Keeffe, has urged businesses to be vigilant and watch out for the use of fake money, which has been occurring regularly over the last few months.

Mr O’ Keeffe believes the issue has surged recently because it is ‘easy to get away with it’.

He said: “Lots of businesses right across East Lancashire have been getting in touch all over the place about this problem.

“We even received alerts this week from Greater Manchester Police about the issue.

“A lot of Irish and Scottish £50s have been coming in at the moment.

“We have taken £300 worth of fake notes taken off people from businesses in the area in the last few weeks. Keep an eye out."
