A MINI-HEATWAVE is set for East Lancashire as temperatures will soar across the country next week.

The hot weather is expected to arrive after the weekend where temperatures will hit the heights of 27C in Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Ribble Valley, Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale by Tuesday.

Weather forecasters have said the weekend is expected to be dry and sunny, but it won't be particularly warm until after Sunday.

Most of the country will be in for a shock next week as the heatwave descends across Britain with temperatures in some parts of the country reaching over 30C.

A Met Office spokesman said: "The final week of June will see plenty of dry and sunny weather across most of the UK, with only the far north and northwest seeing cloudier skies at times, with occasional rain.

"With the fine weather, temperatures will continue to rise for all parts, but especially so in the south where it could turn hot.

"The heat may spark an isolated thunderstorm although the majority will stay dry."

The heatwave is expected to remain until the start of July.
