PLANS to name a street and business park at Whitebirk roundabout are set to be approved by a council.

A business park and street at junction six of the M65 in Rishton is set to be named Frontier Avenue and Frontier Park if approved by elected members of Hyndburn Council.

The development is located at the boundary of Hyndburn Council and Blackburn with Darwen Council.

The names proposed are connected to the history of the location of the development site.

The term frontier, which came from the French in the 15th century, is the political and geographical area near or beyond a boundary.

Avenue is a major roadway, which usually indicated a wide straight road, often tree-lined, that is of major importance.

The road was initially going to be named 'Frontier Boulevard' but this was refused because there is already a road in Blackburn named 'Boulevard' and a building name called 'Boulevard Centre' and this would be classed as duplication, officers said.

A decision will be made at Hyndburn Council's cabinet meeting tonight at Scaitcliffe House, on Ormerod Street, Accrington from 4.30pm.
