POLICE who attended Royal Blackburn Hospital in the early hours of the morning to assist staff arrested a man and found him in possession of cannabis and amphetamine. Blackburn magistrates heard Hamza Akram was clearly under the influence of something and was causing problems in the busy A and E department. Akram, 25, of Colne Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to possessing both drugs. He was made subject to a curfew between 8 pm and 6 am and ordered to pay £85 costs. Ben Leech, defending, said his client had a history of mental health problems and had presented himself at the hospital to be reassessed under the Mental Health Act. "He resorts to self-medicating using cannabis which may not be the best thing for him," said Mr Leech.
