A DAUGHTER has slammed ‘as disgusting’ the sentence given to a teenager who brutally attacked her mum during a robbery.

Police had issued a witness appeal after 52-year-old Wendy Feast was attacked with a plank of wood with nails sticking out of it during a ‘horrific and unprovoked’ robbery.

She was left needing plastic surgery after the attack in Belper Street, Blackburn on January 5 this year.

Mum-of-four Mrs Feast, of Ambleside Close, Blackburn, suffered serious injuries to her face and broken bones in her hands as she tried to defend herself.

Police said the 14-year-old who committed the attack was found guilty of robbery and burglary at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (Monday).

The teenager was handed a 12-month youth referral order and will have to carry out 36 hours unpaid work and pay a £20 victim surcharge at the age of 18.

But Wendy’s daughter Lindsey said: “The sentence is disgusting.

“This person should be getting done for attempted murder.

“It sends out a message that people can just go and bash a woman’s head in and get away with it.

“This is soft justice and the sentence is a real joke.

During the attack the robber stole the keys to to the Gill News and Off Licence, Pelham Street , Blackburn, and used them to get inside, and steal cash.

The robber also took Wendy’s mobile phone.

Detective Inspector Paul Barlow, of Blackburn CID has in the past described the attack as ‘horrific and unprovoked’.

Lindsey, 30, said she was ‘shocked’ when she first heard of the attack after receiving a call from her brother’s work.

She said: “He rang me straight up from his work to say that mum had been attacked.

“I was in a real mess and shocked and I found out that mum had just walked out of the house with dad.

“Not even a minute after dad left her, mum was then attacked.

“So I came straight over to Blackburn where the crime scene was.

“There were police everywhere and an ambulance and CID put me in a car and explained everything, before I went straight there with my partner.”

When she arrived at Royal Preston Hospital, Lindsey said she was taken straight to the Major Trauma Unit where Wendy was.

She said her mum had suffered four gashes on her head, an open fracture on her finger and black eyes and was left needing plastic surgery.

Lindsey said: “She was bleeding and all you could see was blood everywhere.

“She was in a serious condition and they managed to stitch her up.

“Mum then had to have plastic surgery to the top of her forehead, top of her eyebrow and under her chin.

“She was out of hospital two days later on January 7.

After leaving hospital, Lindsey said mum Wendy had to stay with her as she had been left ‘too traumatised’ to return home, which she has since done.

The incident also saw her have to give up her job, as she won’t go back into the shop, but Wendy does work as a cleaner.

Lindsey said: “She’s been left traumatised by what happened, not just physically but also mentally.

“Mum suffers quite bad panic attacks as a result of what happened.

“She’s had to come and stay with me and myself and my partner had to come and stay with her when she did return home.”

Lindsey said she would continue to ‘fight for justice’ for her mum and plans to set up a petition against the sentence.

She added: “It’s not only had a big impact on my mum but also on the whole family.

“We will continue to fight for proper justice and a tougher sentence.”
