A MAN was found in the road critically injured after an attack in Blackburn.
Just before 1pm on Thursday a police officer was flagged down after a 21-year-old man was found unconscious on Devonport Road close to Shaw Street.
Detectives believe the victim was assaulted after walking towards two men on Devonport Road.
He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital and is in a critical condition having suffered head injuries and a collapsed lung.
Two men have been arrested by police in connection with the attack.
Officers are urging anyone with information to contact police.
Two men, both aged 19 and from Blackburn, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are in custody.
Det Chief Insp Marie Haworth said: “This was a cowardly, callous and unprovoked attack on a man who was knocked unconscious. He is currently in a very poorly condition in hospital.
“We are appealing for information, in particular anyone who saw what happened or can assist with our enquiries.
“If you know anything about the attack please speak to us as soon as possible.”
