RUNSHAW College in Leyland is celebrating after its students proved to be a cut above the rest in ‘The Festival of Hair and Beauty North West’ competition.

The college’s media make-up team went to the Blackpool competition last week.

Kamila Raszewska came out on top winning first place for her fantasy make-up with the creation of ‘Into the Purple Woods.

She said: “ I was really honoured to be chosen to enter the competition.

“I practised continuously for two weeks to perfect my design and improve on my make-up application.

“I made all the costume from scratch and my inspiration was to create a fantasy like hybrid creation with a purple theme as this was my favourite colour.

“I am absolutely thrilled to win this as it’s my first ever competition and I am looking forward to continue my career in the world of make-up artistry and competitions.”

Star Kelly also created the steam punk princess, unfortunately she didn’t get placed in the competition.

The media make-up team of Louise Bramwell, Katie Reynolds and Vicky Graham said: “Star’s work was amazing and she is ready for next year to be re-entered and found it to be very beneficial in terms of experience and competitions.

The team said: “We are so proud. This is a massive achievement for the hair and media make-up team to win against competition from all the colleges around the country.”

The North West Hair and Beauty brings together the latest fashions, the newest products and innovations of the industry all displayed and demonstrated by leading suppliers and stylists for professionals within the world of fashion or even the interested consumer.

The hair fair had it all for a great few days for those attending with competitions, exhibitions and seminars and shows.

The media make-up team added: “This is a great boost for the present students and can use this as a benchmark to inspire future students to enter competitions.
