PEOPLE across East Lancashire are being warned to brace themselves for more snow and ice following on from the 'Beast from the East'.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice lasting all day today across most of the country.

A yellow weather warning is also in place until 3pm today across East Lancashire for 'very strong and gusty winds'.

Weather experts are warning snow showers are likely to continue throughout Sunday with the chance of both road and rail delays.

They also said icy surfaces may increase the risk of accidents and injuries and wind chill will be another factor.

Met Office experts said the weather will be bitterly cold for most of Saturday, with some heavy snow showers expected, but conditions will worsen further on Sunday.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders, said: “The heaviest snow is expected overnight Saturday into Sunday with around 5 – 10cms of snow within the warning areas, possibly more over high ground.

"Icy patches are a risk on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

"It will stay bitterly cold and windy throughout Sunday with more sunshine and snow showers."

Public Health England have also issued a Level 3 Cold weather alert for the coming weekend.

The snow and winds are expected to ease by Monday, though overnight frost and some ice is predicted to occur.
