BLACKBURN singer Ryan North missed out as he and his girlfriend performed on the ‘battle stage’ of the ITV talent contest The Voice.

Music teacher Ryan and girlfriend Tania Hambleton had impressed on the opening show of The Voice in January.

Singing as duo RYT they had impressed judge Olly Murs – but they failed to make it through to the next stage on this weekend’s programme.

Pitted against fellow contestant Jamie Grey, Olly was forced to choose between the two acts as they performed to the studio audience.

Olly said: “Based purely on the battle and who came out fighting from beginning to end I’m going to have to go with Jamie.”

Speaking to Ryan and Tania, he added: “This is the best you guys have performed. I love you guys, it was so tough.”

Speaking on social media after the show was aired, Ryan said: "This was hands down the best experience of our life.

"Three out of the four judges turned, but we knew from the start who we wanted and are so happy we chose Olly to mentor us.

"Honestly one of the most genuine guys we’ve met throughout this whole process, and his advice and compliments will stay with us forever."
