THIS is the dramatic moment a masked arsonist sets light to a car.

The attack was captured on the home's CCTV cameras.

The man can be seen dousing the car with a flammable liquid - thought to be lighter fluid or petrol - before using a lighter to set the car on fire.

The attack happened in the early hours of Friday, February 2.

The man approached a Peugeot 107 parked on the drive of a house on Blackthorn Close and set it on fire.

The offender also covered a second car, an Audi A3, with the same liquid but did not manage to set it on fire.

He ran off towards Oak Street. It is thought he then used a bike to head off towards Whalley Range.

DI Mark Gillibrand from Blackburn Police said: “We believe that the cars were targeted and there isn’t thought to be a wider threat to the public. That said, this could have caused a lot more damage than just the destruction of the Peugeot car.

“I am asking anyone who may recognise the man in the pictures or indeed anyone who may know anything that could assist our investigation to come forward and speak to us.”

A police spokesman said: "The offender is described as possibly white, wearing a dark balaclava, dark hooded top/jacket, jogging bottoms or similar, with trainers."
