A MAN who was abused as a child has described his attacker as a ‘monster’ after he was sent to jail.

Paedophile Gerald Frederick Allaire was jailed for five years, at Carlisle Crown Court last week, after being found guilty for two counts of indecent assault in the 1990s.

And Allaire’s victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has urged anyone who has suffered like him to contact the authorities and get the justice and closure they deserve.

Allaire, of Millwood Court, Liverpool, but formerly of Devonshire Drive, Clayton-Le-Moors, appeared before Blackburn magistrates in June where he denied all the charges against him.

Allaire stood trial at Preston Crown Court in November where he was found guilty of two indecency charges but cleared of other sexual allegations.

Sitting at Carlisle Crown Court, James Adkin sentenced Allaire to five years imprisonment, made him subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and told him to sign the sex offender's register for life.

Speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Telegraph, the man said: "I told my partner about the abuse I suffered a few years ago. Before that I bottled it up for so many years.

"It was hard to come forward and tell the police. It was my partner who pushed me to do it. It was having a huge impact on my life. I was trying to block it out all the time.

“I was going out and drinking as a way of dealing with it. I wasn't going out all the time but when I was I was drinking to forget. I was always trying to find ways to keep busy because if you're busy you don't think about it all the time.

"I nearly wrecked everything. I was angry and stressed all the time.”

After being given anti-depressants by his GP the man went to the police in November 2016 and an investigation was launched.

The victim said: "It was hard for me to come forward. I was embarrassed. I am a lad's lad and the thought of people finding out was embarrassing.

"The trial was horrible. I had never been to court in my life. Having to give evidence was horrible. I couldn't speak to anybody about it apart from my missus. She has been my rock.

"When the trial was going on I was stressed out because I didn't want him to get away with it. He is a monster. He was smiling all the time he was at court. When the guilty verdicts came back I just started crying. I didn't even look at him. That is why I went back for the sentencing. Just so I could look at him when he went down from the dock."

Sitting at Carlisle Crown Court, James Adkin sentenced Allaire to five years imprisonment, made him subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and told him to sign the sex offender's register for life.

Thanking his partner, the police and the crown prosecution service, the victim added: "It will never go away. It's always difficult when I'm watching the news and an abuse case comes on.

“It brings it all back. It's always going to be there. It's just trying to deal with it. I am getting there but I'll never forget about it. Hopefully, this will bring some closure and I can move on.

"I would encourage anyone who has been the victim of abuse to speak to somebody about it.

"It was hard for me. I am a man. It's difficult for a man to come out and say something. I am proud that I have done it."

As reported in the Lancashire Telegraph, Allaire was jailed in 2008 after police found 33 hours of child porn footage on his computer equipment. Following a trial at Preston Crown Court he was found guilty of 14 charges of making indecent images of children.

Those offence post-date the indecent assault offences.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Tony Roberts said: "I am happy with the five-year prison sentence given to Allaire. This was a long investigation and I am pleased we were able to get justice for the victim.

"I hope this shows that these cases are taken extremely seriously by the police."
