TRIBUTES have been paid to 'an amazing mum' who died in a go-karting accident on holiday.

Kelly Marie Slater, 33, a teaching assistant at Rosegrove Infant School in Burnley, died just hours after arriving in Tenerife on December 27.

Tributes have been pouring in for the former Towneley High School pupil, described as a 'beautiful person and 'best mum ever'.

The funeral cortege went past Kelly's house on Casterton Avenue in Burnley and hundreds of people attended the funeral at Burnley Crematorium on Wednesday morning.

Her partner John Wilcock said: "She was the most special woman I had ever met in my life.

"She was caring and thoughtful. You hear all the time about tributes being paid to amazing women but she really was.

"There were over 300 people there to pay their respects. I could not believe it but it shows how much people loved her.

"It was overwhelming.

"She had the best bond with her son Archie and she would give him a kiss and a cuddle at night.

"I adored her. I cannot believe it is real, she was my woman and it is not fair."

Her mum Barbara Moffatt said: "She was a brilliant daughter and was always there when you needed her.

"She was also always thinking of other people and was an agony aunt for her friends and would give them advice.

"She was the most beautiful person, both inside and out.

"She was popular with everyone she knew and was an amazing mum to Archie."

Rosegrove Infant School was closed on Wednesday as staff and pupils paid their respects.

Louise Renshaw, headteacher at Rosegrove Infant School, said: "News of Kelly's death in a tragic accident whilst on holiday has come as a tremendous shock to everyone in the school.

"We are a small and close-knit community and this has hit everyone hard. Everyone at school, staff, parents, pupils and governors are extremely upset.

"Kelly was a very experienced teaching assistant, and a greatly valued and respected member of our staff.

"Her bright and bubbly personality made working with her a pleasure. She always had a smile on her face and her love of her job was evident for everyone to see.

"We are working with colleagues from Lancashire County Council so that appropriate support is available to our children and colleagues at school, if this is required.

"We will miss her enormously at school. All our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time."

One of her friends Holly Elcock, also paid tribute to her.

She said: "She loved life so much, Archie was her world and she was the best mum ever.

"Losing Kelly has been such a shock to each and every one of her friends and family, our lives will never be the same but we will all continue to tell the stories and share the memories to keep the spirit of Kelly alive."

A trust fund has been set up for her son Archie, with cheques made payable to C Bennett c/o Alderson and Horan Funeral Services, 128 Rossendale Road, Burnley, BB11 5DH.
