COUNCILLORS will be pounding the treadmill to raise money to help army veterans during the official opening of a refurbished leisure centre.

The new-look Padiham Leisure Centre gym will be officially unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, January 16.

It has been refurbished with financial support from Burnley Council which has been spent on new state of the art equipment.

The event will also see Councillors Lubna Khan and Lian Pate run five kilometres (three miles) on the gym’s treadmills to help fund a trip by army veterans to take part in a commemoration event on the First World War battlefields.

The fundraisers will be joined on the treadmill by Burnley Leisure’s operations manager Scott Bryce.

The treadmill trio is supporting the Burnley and Padiham branch of the Royal British Legion, so its members can take part in the “Great Pilgrimage 90”.
